Are You a Liability?

01/03/2019

I often reflect on a previous law enforcement training engagement I had which involved some remedial training for a group of LEO’s.  The end of day approached fast (as happens when you’re on the range all day) and the Senior Rangemaster for the department confronted me and asked “Is he an asset or liability?”  Clear, concise words I use to this day.

With more and more companies popping up offering 4 hour classes for concealed carry, no mandate from states on sensible training standards, and allowing virtually anyone to train, leaves me wondering should I give up or do what I can to attract students to convince them training is a necessity.   In the fight or flight scenario, I guess I’ll continue to fight, since flight is not a word in my world.

If you’re a member of the 4-hour concealed carry group, with no formal professional training, emergency reload, trigger reset, and tap-rack are foreign terms to you, I’ll be the first inform you that you are a liability.  A liability to yourself and those around you.  Chances are high that you will lose your first and only fight.  Turn around and run.

What makes you think you have an advantage over someone on the opposite end.  At a minimum, they have at least as much experience. Data suggests otherwise as they practice their evil.  Simply having a pistol and concealed carry permit does not put you in the advantage pot.  This requires proper defensive training.  The more you train, the more of an advantage you have.  It’s just that simple.  Acknowledgement is the first step.
