Numerous opinions, concepts, and theories encompass the concealed carry topic. I probably could talk for a month on everything I’ve absorbed over my lifetime about concealed carry. Quite often, I will engage a new or renewal concealed carry student who currently or plans to conceal occasionally because they believe there are times it’s not needed, or they don’t want to change the style of their dress to accommodate concealment. The later will either bury their pistol in a backpack or somewhere in their car.
If there’s one thing I know, and know for certain, if you ever encounter a threat situation where you need to defend your life, or someone around you, it will be quick and close. The primary reason for concealed carry is time. The time it takes to draw my pistol. The time it takes to stop a threat. And doing everything I can long before that to minimize that time, which includes continuous training from the best location I have selected for my pistol.
You will not be able to pick your threat, nor have the time to dig the pistol from your trunk. So, our first two examples are out of the fight and now in flight mode. Concealment is a state of mind, or as I say a “Style of mind.” We’re always observing. “I will be ready for any threat, at any time, from any direction.” "I will never give up!" We must change our style of mind that, in turn, changes our style of dress.
I do understand there are roadblocks for some that do not allow for body concealment. In these cases, you must select the next best location for you and train, train, train. It must be an alternate location that is with you continuously.
All of this, of course, is a moot point without proper, continuous training.
